I have beaten people 200+ points higher than me (and since increased my rating) and I have been beaten by people over 400 points below me. Blitz is so fun because anyone can win. I've also noticed in tournaments players perform much better than in live chess. You need to stop whining and try to imporve your chess. Everyone loses.

Nicely said! Unfortunately, people never do that and always fret over their losses, whine, accuse their opponent, etc.

Thank you! :)

It's a pity people do that, but it's only natural. That being said, I wish people wouldn't post about it on forums.

Yes, you're completely right. Life is too short for people to always fret over their mistakes, and blame others for it. We can't prevent ourselves from making mistakes, as we're not perfect. People don't understand this. It's somewhat like a basketball match. If the referee makes a wrong call against a team, and the team loses, their fans will blame the referee. If the opposite happens and the referee makes the wrong call in favor of their team, resulting in their win, they won't say anything bad against the referee. It's shameful behavior, but unfortunately, we have to deal with it.

So starting a forum about faking a low rating to win is the same as losing a basketball match ?? Are you for real ?? There is nothing shameful about this post and actually you don't have to deal with it at all lol ! Nobody held a gun to your head and said read this. Lets get real here .

Wow, so it's actually some sort of sacrifice! Would never have thought so, very interesting.

You first. Meanwhile, congratulations on joining the ranks of countless clueless dinks who cling for dear life to unsupportable delusions for page after page after page. Just another brick in the wall.

Finally, someone who recognizes the truth.

Reading the forum posts could be dangerously addicting because so many of those who post here are brilliant, clever and amazingly entertaining.  This is a compliment to all of you. Some of you have a markedly higher rating in conversational witticism and logic than others, but .... reading your comments back and forth is like watching a chess tournament only its enjoyable in another way and other dimensions than the 2D or 3D chess boards.

Just saying this because I want each and everyone of you to know that those of us who might not necessarily participate in a forum thread and send our own comments and replies richocheting around with whinging sounds (to the person who criticized another for misspelling - whinging is a real word) - your comments and written thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated and are a part of why this is such a great website.

Step 1: Stop playing chess

Step 2: Start studying chess

Step 3: Play OTB chess

Step 4: Stop complaining

Step 5 : Nail myself to the cross and beg forgiveness

You guys are brutal ! I thought this was a very interesting topic to debate, but i was wrong. It's turned into a forum of lets beat up Slimcheffy lol !

As long as you people are happy insulting me, I guess that's all that really matters. I have big shoulders and have endured worse. So yeah... have fun.

Was that a chess game the OP posted, or some version of Space Invaders on Steriods ?

There's too much peyote in your avatar's desert, and the OP got a hold of some ?

What a fricken' game he posted.  Those Tal-like tactics almost make you go blind.

Looks to me that his level is 1247 on line.

Ratings

Live Chess - Blitz 875

Live Chess - Standard 1247

Live Chess - Bullet 1150

Looked at the game and you gave your queen away.

For a pawn you place the Queen on B7 and left it there.

He looks legitimate to me.

totally agree , I got careless and sent my Queen into the corner and for what ?? It was very poor play on my part. Looking at that game, which I have several times now, I think even Helen Keller would have beat me : (

Why do people care about online chess ratings anyways???

You outplayed your opponent in the opening, but you blundered with 12.Qxb7??. Your opponent missed the oppurtunity, and you took advantage of it for several moves. You threw your advantage away for the second time with 15.e4??. 17.cxb6?? was the move that made you lose the game and from then on, everything was downhill. Tho be honest, you played great in the opening, but you couldn't convert your advantage into a win and your opponent took advantage of it.

Chess rating anxiety syndrome.

This has nothing to do with rating anxiety. The topic addresses the possibility of players faking a low rating to win in tournaments, or "sandbagging". Like it or not , it is a reality.

I played through the game. No offence but you played like a 900 yourself (And so did the other guy). At move 28 you missed a free rook and free knight in the next move. So you were winning. If you can`t see a clear win then please don`t complain and rewatch your games before you post them here.

I cannot argue your point, and no offense taken. It's funny how everyone at times misses the obvious captures like the rook you mentioned. I am sure if you have played any amount of Chess, you too have done that, or possibly put your Queen on the chopping block. It happens. And so does faking a low rating to win. I have already agreed that this was most likely not the case in this game, after considering many good comments and reviewing the game. As far as posting the game here and opening discussion.....why wouldn't I ? I wonder how many of you would post such a horribly played game for all to poke fun at and ridicule ?? I did it to open up discussion on faking a low rating to win.

adumbrate

i used skotheim because i found out the password again but then i lost to a 1600 in bullet when i am 2000 here XD

Hello, I have just recently experienced a few of players who ( I won't mention names )  enter tournaments with much lower ratings than their playing ability.

In Live Chess I float around the 1150 to 1250 range, give or take. Recently I entered a tournament and was beaten hands down by a 989 rated player , followed by a 846 rated player who also had no trouble putting me down.

I'm no dummy , wasn't drunk or intoxicated in any way, and there is no way I can believe these "players" were honest about their ratings.

Has anyone else experienced this ? What are your thoughts ? I just withdrew from the tournament, it seemed to be pointless.

I wouldn't say anything on the game you posted as it has already been discussed in detail but I have a small suggestion for you. Just becareful when you encounter 100-800 rated blitz players in Live Chess tournaments (time control 3 0 & 5 0). :) There are hundreds of such members. You can find them easily in top game chats. Good luck with your games!

LOL, I've only bee playing here a week and I already got my first accusation of cheating:"block this ugly b*****d he is using chess machine f*** u a*****e". Are there really 1189 players here who cheat so they can beat a 1042? Boy, the trash talk must get really vicious out here once you reach a near-master rating like 1500 or 1600.
