Actually if there is a force mate since the very beginning of a game , the only thing people will do is to remember the steps of that mate in X. If you want to find a force mate since a position which both players play a few moves to create a pattern, you can search "Chess traps". Actually the fool's mate is a force mate since the second move and it is a forced mate in one.

OK, so we all know about the fastest mate (Fool's mate), but what I'm interested in is the fastest forced mate that can occur in chess... this for a chess program I am writing, in which I need to test it's capacity to see checkmates more than one ply ahead.
EDIT: Perhaps my question is not very clear. What I mean to ask is this: what is the shortest (requiring least amount moves) way to achieve a position from which one side can create a forced mate?
Thanks!
