Just bride chess.com by buying a membership....then you get automatic vacation and will rarely timeout, and bingo your rating goes up....guess this is supposed to be "fair".

You have no timeouts in the last 90 days. Why are you complaining?

Obviously, because the people that do timeout repeatedly get a pass.

Ugh.... You can still timeout. Just not as quickly.

Would you rather this, or no chess.com as they can't find the funding for the site?

u of p, my friend, I understand your frustration.  I'm in the first round of a team tournament that started two months ago and one of my 4 opponents hasn't made a move and has been on vacation and still has weeks to go.

I think chess.com gives credit for too much vacation time.  If you begin a daily game, there should be a limited amount of time you can take.  I joined chess.com 11 months ago, personally used a week of vacation time for my Caribbean cruise in August, yet I still have 3 months of vacation remaining!  Means I can enter into a game or games an leave my opponents hanging until we're almost withn a month of Spring!  There should be a shorter limit1

I'm in one team tournament now with Team USA Southeast where no vacation is allowed and I like it because I know I'll be finished before I go on another trip where I can't get Internet.

Yeah, I talked to guy the other day that said one of his daily game tournaments actually went on 2 years! When I play daily tournaments I do expect them to go on 4-6 months or so, but there needs to be a light at the end of the tunnel. Also, I have noted that people that go vacation a lot will more often than not do so when they are losing. I took one week back in August too to drive my son to U of FL from CT, and resigned some of the games clearly lost. However, 3 months of vacation per year is ridiculous; the only people that take that much are unemployed or European....lol. Sorry, I like Europeans and feel sorry for the unemployed, but some of them take 2-3 months a year vacation.

I have a PhD in psychology and it takes 66 days to be better at something if you study real hard. To be better at correspondence games you have to study correspondence theory. For example, it is better to play dull openings like the London system and Queens gambit to prevent risk. Since your opponent has lots of time to think, it is better to play defensively. If you attack then you'll most likely lose because your opponent would find a way to defend.

"66 days" sounds weirdly specific.

I can assure you that you can get better at making pancakes in a day, or a couple days if you have other things to do. On the other hand, you won't get much better at brain surgery in 66 days unless you've been doing it quite a bit already.

My daily rating recently went down only because I got bored and stopped using a data base to look up moves....all I really have to do is start using a data base again and it will go up 75 points in 66 days, which I guess will prove your theory FanOfGenuisKind....nice name!

What's the point of looking for ways to boost your rating? Are you under the impression that a higher rating will enable you to play better?

It's the other way around...

using a data base you cheating little git, why do people cheat at chess?  that's what I really want to know. what do they get out of it?  I wonder how many have cheated me by looking up data base lol . I plan on getting so good it wont matter even if you do cheat you still going to end up getting terminated

Right, I'm really trying to increase my OTB ability by dropping the use of data bases....don't give a rat's a.. about internet ratings really.

Using a data base at daily is okay, legal, know what you are talking about before you accuse. Engine use is always prohibited, and any aid at live games is prohibited.

Avatar of Terminator-T800

Well I see using a data base as still cheating. I wouldn't look at one while playing

Avatar of universityofpawns

No, not at daily, actually you are SUPPOSED to take your time and look things up in books, data bases, etc.....you must be a youngster and not remember the old days of correspondence chess before the computer age, that is what daily is supposed to be/mimic.

Avatar of Terminator-T800

I still see it as cheating.

Avatar of universityofpawns

Well, play something other than daily if you don't know the rules or just expect to be at a slight disadvantage because people are encouraged to use them. The data base only helps with the openings anyways so it is not a huge advantage like using an engine all the way through.

Avatar of Terminator-T800

I just have to except I'm at a slight disadvantage for the time being because using a database like that would ruin my fun, I would feel as though I'm cheating myself. All the best
