Female chess masters.

Hello again, Acepong here, or Jasmine as my homepage says, everyone calls me acepong though LOL. I have a topic that I feel should be brought upon. The female chess players of our world are very strong but there have not been many masters or world championships in history. Why is that? I feel that women are just as strong as men in chess. There are a few women grandmasters including one of my favorites Susan Polgar.

I don't know about the average man vs the average woman, but at the highest level, ratings seem to indicate otherwise. Currently Judit Polgar is the highest ranked female chess player, but only #55 overall.

No female world champs yet, sadly. There has been much discussion on this topic, and possibly the best explanation is that so few females play chess. The more ofa minority a group is, the less statistical chance that a member of the group will achieve very good results.

I know what you mean. I just hate it when they divide categories into Male and Female categories. I also do not see the point on having Woman titles such as Woman Grandmaster.

Not to start the discussion all over again... But it's not only a statistical issue. If I remember correctly, currently there are only 2 women in the top 100 players. I don't think that statistically, male chess players outnumber females 98 to 2.

I agree with Timothy. It took millions of average male chess players, to turn out one Bobby Fischer. If we are looking for a "Barbara Fischer," we are really going to need to step it up, and get more women (especially girls) interested in chess.

only 1. 100th in the world is 2653 FIDE.  in live ratings no other woman besides Judit is above 2600 FIDE. (Koneru, Yifan, Muzychuk circa 2595 FIDE)

That's a few threads on the topic. There were more, but that's where I ran out of energy.

Thanks.  Reading the thread titles is probably more elucidating than reading the content.

Exactly, batgirl - they're pointless.

Or you  read this exerpt of an interesting article by Susan Polgar regarding the  subject of women  in chess. The full article is found in her book "Breaking through".

Which is probably the reason we are weary of them.

Avatar of corrijean

Probably for the same reason's listed in Bartleby's article.

Excuse me. Women chess players are equal to the elite men. We have just as much strength as you do and we can prove it to you. We can go out there and show you that women can be just as strong as men in chess. We can compete as par as men. What I hate is people saying we are not "EQUAL" to men.

That's simply not true.

Yes, this is possible.

Women play better chess. They smell better too.
