FIDE rating: Rating types

I understand that fide has 3 official OTB ratings, standard, rapid and blitz. However, after checking on some players, I noticed that they obtain their new rating based on their rating on another time control. Example: A player has a standard rating of 1900 and is unrated at rapid. He loses to another 1900 at a rapid game and instead of having a rapid rating of 1200 (his tpr after that game) he has a rapid rating of 1890 as if he was 1900 at rapid initially and just lost 10 rating points from that game. So do ratings get derived from each other? And under what circumstances? please help, thanks in advance.

Why ask here? Ask on the FIDE site.

My impression is that FIDE only uses rapid games when calculating rapid ratings.

Universal Ratings are based on games at all three time controls.

Some players may seem to be unrated on the FIDE site, but they have played FIDE rated games in the past, and these games only feed into their rating when they finally have played enough games to get a rating.  I don't think a player would receive a rating after only one game.

The FIDE site doesn't have discussion forums.

So when does this happen and when does this not?

If you have a classical rating and no rapid rating .. Then your rapid rating is calculated according to your classical rating...don't know about blitz though!

Was this an official rating, or just something posted at the tournament? The printout can read anything, even a lie, if the director thinks it's useful. It could even by a typo.

Was this rating change an estimate after 1 game, or again, was it an official rating? You're not going to see any official rating change mid-tournament. The actual rating change will happen taking all games into account, which may include 10 or 20 games.

If it was an official rating, did you check to see if any other tournaments were played by this player? Depending on when results are submitted and whether there are any problems, a rating you see for a player may not reflect their most recent tournaments. So someone may appear to be unrated when they're not or to e.g. gain rating points after losing most of their games.

Actually that was me, but in a different case, had a 1500+ standard rating, got a tpr of 1300+ in a rapid tournament and ended up with a rapid rating in the high 1400s
