hello respected members, i just want to know the procedure of getting FIDE rating, well there is an International open tournament coming up in my home town this month so if i participate there will i get FIDE rating?

Fear_ItseIf

i think you need 12 games to get a rating, so it will probably take two tournaments (7 games a tournament usually) to receive one.

Surprised thats really interesting

You need to get more than 3 points against rated players and you must have met a minimum of 9 FIDE rated players.

what I said is correct - minimum of 1 point out of at least 3 FIDE-rated opponents in your first tournament.  After that, you can lose the rest of your games and still get a FIDE rating after your tournament that has your 9th FIDE-rated game.

thanks that was really helpful, it was very confusing for me but not anymore

I don't have a FIDE rating either, and would just like to add a little queston to this topic:

Before doing all of this do you like need to sign up on a website or something or is this done automatically?

(so do you need to bring an ID to your OTB tournaments?)

You need to register with your country's chess federation, this process is very easy and takes only a few minutes.

You play in an official FIDE rated tournament. Play at least 9 FIDE rates players and win at least one game. your performance will get you your rating. After 3 months, go to FIDE.com and your rating will be there. you should also note your FIDE ID, which is recieved after playing. For future tourneys u will need that.

@Vikramjit-You can register in the tournament venue. You need to fiill a form and pay Rs250 or 500,I don't remember exactly. To get a rating, you have to make at least 1 and a half points against 9 rated players. This will get you a rating performance and your rating will appear on the FIDE website on the last day of the month.

Shadowknight is completely correct here.  My daughter just achieved her partial rating this weekend by scoring a total of one point against three FIDE-rated players.

http://www.aicf.in/calendar/-check it out.All FIDE tournaments taking place in India in 2013 are listed here.

Well first of all if you are playing a FIDE AICF Tournament then you need to play 9 rated players(there are generally 11 rounds) and score two points against them.It can be 4 draws, 2 wins 1 win 2 draws anything but two points. You will then get a rating according to what was the strength of the rated player you defeated.

If you do not get 9 rated players of are not able to score 2 points against rated players  you can suffice those requirements in next tournaments.
