Watching the live FIDE World Blitz Chess Championship with commentary by GM Dmitry Komarov is like watching a Saturday Night Live skit.

After 5 rounds Carlsen is the only player with 5 pts. 4 1/2 for Nakamura. I think Naka would have a better chance if there was no increment.

MrDamonSmith

How much time do the players get in between rounds?

WalkontheWildSide

Just saw Viktor Balogan slap one of the arbitrators from Dubai after losing to Vakhidov Jahongir. LOL, you can't make this stuff up.

WalkontheWildSide

Not sure how much time they get between rounds. But the next round seems to start 10-15 minutes after the last game of a round is finished.

I saw that too! He slapped his hand. What was the arbiter doing, reaching for something? He wasn't trying to shake his hand was he? That was weird.

I think Balogan was just upset and embarrassed that he lost to an "unknown" 19 year old.

Carlsen & Nakamura are paired together for round 10!!  Carlsen has 7.5 & Naka has 7. Sauron (as Naka nicknamed him) is in 2nd while Naka is in 6th.

It's board one so we get to watch almost all of it.

Now THIS will be interesting:)

WalkontheWildSide

Naka draws Carlsen in round 10.

Ive never heard of Lu shanglei, apparently hes born in 95. Hes doing pretty darn well! Carlsen's only loss in the blitz is to him. These chinese players need to play in fide events more often

MrDamonSmith

They do. All the time.

Indian chess ace Viswanathan Anand came up with a thumping victory over reigning world champion Magnus Carlsen but had to settle for the bronze medal in the World Rapid Chess Championship.

The game with Carlsen, who won Gold despite the defeat, was the talking point for thousands of chess buffs on the social media as Anand is set for a re-match with Carlsen in November to determine the next world champion.

fabelhaft

One of Komarov's best comments this far was after Yu Yangyi had beaten three Russian players: "Maybe we should recruit him for Ukrainian military forces".

People make such a big deal if Carlsen loses to Anand. Carlsen is again leading the tournament at 8/10 but he has one loss to a chinese 2600 blitzer. These time controls make it easy to blunder. Carlsen would never lose to Lu Shanglie in classical haha.
