BECAUSE IT SUCKS!!!!!
Figurine Descriptive notation - why not?
Born in 1951, all I ever had growing up was descriptive notation. Descriptive is like a fat sweaty guy. Like a gulp of sour milk. Like peeing your khaki pants. The advent of algebraic was like a fresh cool day after a humid summer. Like a sip of water after a marathon. Like a first kiss.
I prefer algebraic. And I also like figurine algebraic--truly international.
The new editions of My System and Chess Praxis are both written using figurine notation. As for why we don't use it regularly - probably because everyone learned algebraic first and it's the way we write the moves down during a real USCF/FIDE game. Obviously, it's much easier to simply write in algebraic than draw little images.
This idea is not new, I've heard that some publications used this variation of descriptive notation, when figurines are used instead of abbreviations like K, Q, Kt etc. So, why not to use this today?
This contains only figurines and numbers, so it could be easier for people who is not familiar with Latin alphabet.
P.S. I know that the algebraic notation today almost fully superseded the descriptive one, and some countries (like Russia, where I live) didn't use it at all.
