First OTB tournament
Hello chess.com,
I will be playing in my first ever chess OTB tournament soon, and I was looking for some tips as to what to do to prepare myself, chess-wise and psychologically, to maximise my outcome. As it is my first one, I don't really mind about the result, but I get anxious and worry extremely easily and I don't want to freak out on the day.
Taking deep breaths and relaxing is helpful. For my first few tournaments, I was stressed and did badly, but now that it is more of a habit, I don't get stressed as much.
Oh yeah, it's a 60|10 time control, a 9 round swiss over 3 days.
Then also take your time for sure.
I'm terrible at taking my time. I play even as slow as 15|10 games and still only spend a total of about 5 minutes thinking.
lol you better try... look at ever possablle outcome
That would be so exhausting though. >18 hours over 3 days.
I have been playing in toutn for over 40 years and still get a little nervous before the first round. but once that first move is made that all goes away.try to take your time 60 min is a lot longer then you think good luck and have fun
The only issue is u want to go there and win..just go there to play the game and just experience the game..u won't win The tournament that's for sure. just know u can win some n lose some n tel urself I'll play better 5 tournaments..

"I don't really mind about the result"
Although I must admit I prefer winning, losing is totally fine as I will finally get myself an otb rating and can say that I've played in a proper tournament. That's already a win in my eyes.
Enjoy yourself....take a look at your opponents and remember they are dealing with the same pressure to win. Relax and have fun!
Just play , don't think that this is your first OTB tournament....and get nervous......
Just have fun ........
And remember as chess.com says you never lose when you learn
Good Luck!
