Congratulations on your victory. To beat a 1750 rated opponent in your first OTB tourney is impressive. You must be a pretty strong player. Once again, congrats.
First OTB Tourney results!!

Congratulations also. But in your game against Shiffman you missed 18. Nxf7 winning the queen.
Ouch!

Well, I was not completely sure he was a 1750 player, but I really wouldnt know. The only USCF rated player I have played was a national masters and I was destroyed

The fact that he missed your blindingly obvious (if you don't mind me saying) one-move tactic of Nxf7+ would suggest otherwise, but there is always the possibility he somehow made a serious error out of character...

If he wasn't USCF rated player, then how can he be 1750? He's simply unrated in that case, just like you.

Well, the USCF site has one Bertram Shiffman, rated 1316.
This sounds a lot more likely, judging by the game, wouldn't you say? Not that it matters much, the main thing is the 3-0 result!

Not to mention that said Bertram Shiffman has in the past played at chess events at the Kenilworth Chess Club. Regardless, a 3-0 performance is very impressive for your first OTB event. Congrats!
So I just played my first OTB tournament ever. It was a U-1800 G/40 RR Swiss sponsored by the Kenilworth Chess Club and was held at the Scotch Plains Library. I was a little anxious as this was the first time I played in a tournament but after I sat down and got into my game, everything was just peachy.
My first opponent was a mid-20's guy on board 1 who played a lot of casual chess but, like me, never played in a tournament.
I felt good about my positional play in game 1, and saw how a quiet move sometimes is the winning move. The real competion will be in the second game against an older man on board 1 with a rating of 1750 (I did not verify this, just took his word as gentlemen should). This was a real grinder and the best game in my opinion. Enjoy!
In the third round I assumed I would face my toughest opponent but instead was paired with an 11 yeard old named pablo. It turned out to be a real breezer that doesnt need to be shown. Overall, I really enjoyed the expirience and cant wait to start playing Quads in November and hopefully get a rating down in December.
P.S. Prize for a 3-0 score was a membership to the Kenilworth Chess Club- not bad!
