First Tourney in Many Years

Today was my first tournament in almost 12 years. Last rating was 1871. Scored 3.5/5, winning against an 1800s and two 1900s, drawing a 2100s and lost to a 2200. Using the rating estimator, my new rating next supplement should be 1953. Had to gush, I really expected to get floored since I've only played online occasionally until the past 6 months or so. I don't remember opening lines like I did as a teenager, but it's a lot easier for me to assess and plan correctly now; I guess maturing helped with it psychologically. Who knows, who cares lol anyway, thanks for wasting your time with this paragraph.

No, just hoping to reach expert. I expect it will level out back to lower 1900s after a few events.

Congrats! I hope to do half as well as you when I play in a tournament in February. It will be my first in over 25 years.

It's interesting that you are finding it easier to assess and plan now. In my current chess studies, those aspects are making much more sense to me than they used to.

Best of luck in your future tournaments.

Thank you, and good luck to you as well! Maybe it's having a different thought process, not only about chess, but just in general.

That's a good result for a first time back. I've noticed something similar with my own chess and study. I haven't looked at a chess board for almost five years until playing on this site, yet i can understand positions better now than i could before.

I would be great to see one of the games if you happened to record one.
