is learning openings really necessary to progree or is just using your gut feeling enough?

Learning openings is good because it can fall enemys into traps, those are gambits, the openings can have a good position, like sicilian or Queens gambit, ig its to have a tactical idea to checkmate on the opening/midgame and endgame

Learn basic opening principles. Play 1. e4 and learn Italian and other openings which are full of tactics.
