Without knowing how much CPU Houdini is using, that numble is completly usless. On some computers it will way less then that and on others it will run much more then that. You could replace that statement with litterally any numer and the statement would remain true. Engines are measured in (kN/s)/GHz withoug knowing the GHz your kN/s does not say anything.

Um, what do you mean? Like best programns on a normal computer? Best programns on a super computer?

My mac air is running stockfish at slightly over 1800 kN/s. kN/s Stands for  Kilo nodes per second, which roughtly translates to moves per second. So my computer is looking at roughly 1800 moves every second. Super computers can pretty easily run a million positions a second. It's hard to be any more discriptive then that as it relies heavily on the postion. I would assume a good desktop could do upward of 10x what I can do on my air.

If you are looking for some super heavy calculations you could always use more then one computer...

"1800 kN/s" means that the engine is evaluating 1,800,000 positions per second. Ever wondered what "kilo" stands for in the word "kilogram"?

Synaphai is correct. Even my modest i3 laptop tops 3 million positions per second.
