I’ve been playing chess for quite a few years, I have never been able to figure out, why do players , play I minute, 2 minute , 3 minute games. Is there a reason, what purpose does it serve. What can you accomplish in that short period of time.

It's a more intense experience than longer games. And also a test of your intuition. There is no time to calculate and think so you go with the first move/plan you see.
