Get black out of checkmate

Can anyone figure out how to stop White from checkmating Black?

The best options would be blocking the Queen with g6 or blocking the Bishop with e6.

It would appear impossible. It is white's move

Qxh7.

That would do it.

Oops, it is white's move.

But let's just say that the queen went to f3, then h5.

Then it would be black's move.

So then, what would you do to fail White's checkmating plan?

Yes, those 2 are good options, but there is still another move that might make White think twice.

I will go g6

Try to think about what the other move that stops checkmate might be.

I can give a hint if anyone wants one.

e6, g6, Nh6, d5, Ne5

Yes, they are all correct.

I actually like Ne5 the best since then, if White's move is anything but

Qg5, Qg4, Qh3, or Bf1,

then Black can play Bxg2, and White can do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to save their h1 Rook, and Black will win 5pts.

what about Qxe5 Bxg2 Bd5? black loses 2 pieces for a rook and a pawn

e6

How did you work that out?

White made 3 moves, black made 3 moves.

and where did you get that? white can play Qe2/Qf3/Qg4 before Qh5 and the same with the bishop

Obviously, but I'm just pointing out why the other guy came to the conclusion that its would be whites turn.

Avatar of MARattigan

That was probably his reasoning, but the question makes more sense if it's Black to play.

Avatar of Sum1_5968

Yeah, it makes more sense for Black to play, because that was the whole point of this puzzle.
