Typically, yes, they are. But, they're also encouraged from birth to be more interested in frivolity than in constructive pursuits. (Though, I'd argue whether chess is more constructive than, say, Minecraft, on several levels, and spending all of your time playing a game is *not* constructive in any way.)

Do the world a favor and buy your daughter an erector set or Mindstorm kit instead of a doll. The Future thanks you in advance.
