it's basically how accurate your rating is.

The lower the Glicko the more accurate the rating.

Yeah, think of it like a multiplier that's applied to your rating change after a game. A high glicko rd means your gain or lose more points than you would if you had a low rd.

You lower your rd by playing. Your rd raises very slowly through inactivity (and also new accounts start with a very high rd).

I always wondered how to interpret the number directly.

From Wikipedia:

"The RD measures the accuracy of a player's rating, with one RD being equal to one standard deviation. For example, a player with a rating of 1500 and an RD of 50 has a real strength between 1400 and 1600 (two standard deviations from 1500) with 95% confidence. Twice the RD is added and subtracted from their rating to calculate this range."

 Now I know.

Currently, for daily chess, I have an RD of 70  and rating of 1670 so my real rating is somewhere between 1530 and 1800, though my current rating is inflated by about 100 due to a lot of opponents timing out recently so I'm more likely between 1430 and 1700.

It would be very cool if chess.com would show the RD value in parenthesis when displaying peoples' ratings, i.e. 1670(70)
