Lamps?
globes hanging from ceiling

I seem to remember this exact same question being asked a number of months ago? Reused troll material?
I see them at chinese restaurants sometimes. But, the fact they have them at chess tournaments it is more than just decorations. Anyone?

They are troll detectors. The reason you see them in Chinese restaurants is that the Chinese are particularly fearful of trolls. Chess.com is working on virtual globes to detect trolls on their forums. Until virtual globes are implemented, however, we have to detect trolls the old fashioned way, by the ridiculous nature of the threads they start.

Yes Lieutenant, you can ask one more question....and then, if you don't mind, I have a lot of work to do.

"Does anyone know what these things are for?" Wait!, the only person I know who says that is....LISA?? JULIE??
Can someone please explain this to me? I recently attended a chess tournament. One thing I found odd is that there these hollow globes hanging above the tables from the ceiling. Does anyone know what these things are for? I just find it odd to see them at a chess tournament. Is this a new thing that is going on?
