@GM/@IM when magics goes away?

I am enjoying my chess way since 20-30- or maybe 40 years, at different levels, my ELO in chess.com is really low, I use only three openings, when will come the moment I am starting to get too many losses, I will go study some new material. I read some book, but did not finish because..I am afraid that if I become stronger I am not going to have fun anymore. Because the all point is: every time i play I get some amazing feelings(if I win). Today instead to read the books the old way I could use a lot of software boosters, to become much more proficient in strategy, positional sense,tactics, opening and combinations, in really low time considering the old way.

I can, but I am afraid that I am no going to prove the same feelings, trading, coding, flirting, football, give me great feelings, but what I love is chess, the quiet war, with a time constraint. Learning my self and taking already studied patterns/methods really in homeopathic way.

I would like to know from IM/GMs if they honestly can tell me, if they someway regret when the game was much less memory, and much more creativity, and battle feeling.

I know a canned reply would be, yeah but you see new patterns, more advanced move going forward, but is that so true? I think not. On the other side I know if I start to use sw, lessons, video, more openings I would double my ELO really easy, but is that worthy if the only think I am looking for is to play a 10m game and enjoy.

EDIT : you do not need to read, just a funny thing: I said I am enjoying chess since 20,30, 40 years. Well this is the point, when I was 10 years old, I was playing with the guy upstairs, we did not know nothing about center, so we were aiming to move the pawns in a and g as opening, and throw away the towers, because they had a magnificent range to attack. If I would have read a book, or analyzed one of my games( at that times was not automatic to analyze your own games) I would understood that placing e4 d4 pawns would have been muuuuch more effective. And that is the point. I read a book at that time(photocopied because did not have the money) and was saying that, so I went upstairs to my friend, and I won, the point is that also the fun was terminated.
