Got an Official FIDE Rating !!

This is my profile on the FIDE site and as you notice I have a classical FIDE rating of 1079. Admittedly that is nothing to be proud of, but I do have an official FIDE rating. How many could say that.

Congratulations! 

I think you are of much better strength. Your rating isn't yet stabilized because you have so far played only a few games. Perhaps also the country (you are playing in) matters.

A few responses -

How many games - Well I had 3 gos at it. I played 3 FIDE rated tournaments and to get a rating you have to defeat or draw a FIDE rated player and have a performance rating of over 1000 in a tournament.

Additionally a walkover doesn't count. So if you are paired against a FIDE rated player and he doesn't show up, it wont get you a FIDE rating.

In the first two tournaments I won, but not against a FIDE rated player.

Then I took a break from FIDE tournaments for a while. In this period my chess.com rating touched 1600 and 1500 regularly. I believe that during the 1st tournament I had a chess.com rating of 1100 or 1200.

Finally in this tournament I dfeated 2 FIDE rated players, drew 2 and got a bye. The rest I lost.

About me being under-rated I dont know. FIDE rated players are beasts, at least in India. You could be 1500 in chess.com, up against someone who is 1000s FIDE rating and in my experience that guy will wipe the floor with you.

So I think I would not consider myself under-rated in so far as FIDE rating goes. Over-rated if anything.

Online ratings, I prefer to ignore them. I'm a 1550 FIDE and only surpass that here in daily, and not by much.

Still I have respect for some things those millenials do... a friend once sent me a video, he was playing bullet with all that premove thing, listening music and chatting with a friend, there was still one more tab open if I remember well, I could barely follow what was going on. I must feel the silence, and the wood between my fingers though. 

I wonder why some people's Fide ratings are higher than their chess.com ratings while the opposite is true for some other people. 

He was playing bullet while doing other things at once, meanwhile I find hard to focus on a screen, OTB it is much easier for me.

Could you post some of your OTB games, so that we can guage the quality of play of your opponents.

I think following factors are making you over-estimate the quality of your opponents:

1) 3d pieces and board: online players are generally not used to 3d board which can mess up their board vision.

2) you may be running straight into your opponents opening preparations.

3) general tournament pressure.

4) not being used to OTB time controls.

But your online blitz rating is lower than your 1550 OTB rating. 😜 So, chess.com rating is harder than FIDE rating?

I wonder if chess.com rating can tell what OTB rating I can get? Is there any correlation?

Not entirely true.

You need to play in a FIDE rated tournament. At least three of the opponents you are paired against must already be FIDE rated. You must score at least one point against those three players. After calculation, your resulting rating must be 1000 or higher.

ALL FOUR of those criteria must be satisfied before you can be rated by FIDE.

So no, "anyone that plays in a fide rated tournament" will not necessarily gain a FIDE rating.
