Has anyone taken this online test?
It says you need to answer in English descriptive notation, but then it describes algebraic notation (descriptive notation is different of course). Seems English is not this person's first language or something.

Right away at question #2 something is wrong. It lists 3 moves by white and says "this is the threat". As if you can make 3 moves in a row without counter attacking by black.
I disliked #7 which I got wrong. It says to find a good move. My move was very good (but not best). My move was given about +4.00 for white vs the best move +5.00 but my move requires almost no calculation. (I checked the lines with an engine during the test, after I answered of course).
The other one I missed I answered "I don't know" -- don't know if that changes the score. The one that warns "Difficult!" which seems inconsistent with the intro which says the difficulty and goals are randomized to keep you honest.

There's no way to stop that sequence, so showing the 3 moves in a row is fine.
Which is one thing that these tests can't check... I saw this was unstoppable before I answered, but someone could just guess.
Same for the rook endgame. The first move is the move most beginners would guess... but seeing the whole sequence (which I did) doesn't count for anything.

I stumbled across this test online and I've got to say it's total nonesense!
Firstly, they don't even warn you that you're being timed in the description. Secondly, there's a question involving finding a mate in two for which there are '2' answers, not 1. Thirdly, there are questions asking you to 'find a good move for white/black' and then tells you that your'e wrong because you didn't find the 'correct' move.
Absolute joke and according to my 1900 otb level and 10 years of experience I'm only a beginner!
Let me know what you guys think :)
My engine says there's only 1 mate in 2.

Did the test again (this time concentrating) and it gave me this which seems more accurate, but I still think for the reasons stated that it's a poorly designed test.
beginner | intermediate | advanced | expert | master |
You obtained 9 points out of 15, in 5 minutes, 8 seconds
Your level is: advanced
Almost all of the evaluation ones I more or less knew because I'd analyzed similar positions. Esp. the one with the bad bishop... that was a Capablanca (maybe Lasker?) game IIRC. And the one with the king on f7, I don't remember the opening, but I've seen that position somewhere before.
So that can also make it inaccurate.

Yeah, sorry I got that wrong.
I cant take any of this [ Moderator. Edited for language] seriously there are so many factors that determines the rating of a chess player like you could maybe get some idea of what a players rating is if you play multiple games against him/her but not from this!!!!!!!!!

2 links will give you more info about the site; http://www.freechessarea.com/gambit_chess_opening.html and International Chess Master School.
Yeah, there's already a really good way to make a guess at your "real" rating, and with this method the more you do it, the more accurate it is (and you can do it for years if you want).
That method is of course playing rated games lol.
I think this is more designed for "hey, look, you didn't solve this position correctly, and here's a good explanation of the correct move, so hopefully you'll consider buying our teaching materials/services."

took it a second time and it gave me zero points. I definitely got more than that
0 points= you answered all wrong! Why you think you got more than that?
