Having spoken to a few people on the site and read users comments, it seems that many people have been encouraged to play more chess due to this site. Obviously, the more time spent on the game, the more you improve. Actually, if anyone has started to spend more time on chess and ended up getting worse, I'd like to hear about it.

I dont think anyone would admit to getting worse! Your right tho, is it not impossible to get worse at chess? (not talking about GM level).

I would say my game has improved.  I played when I was in high school and then hadn't really played much for years.  Generally because didn't usually have someone to play against.  I would say that probably the best feature about www.chess.com  is that you are able to play at  your level or just a little beyond your ability thereby improving your game.  This comes about because you can find players so easily, right at your fingertips.  Also cost of playing a game is reduced by not having to play face to face.  Scheduling of time is great because you can play anytime you have time to sit at your computer.  Another great feature is the support of your community of chess players.

I come from England and football is our life, BUT without the grass roots players the sport would be nothing. Out of this site there may evolve a world champ. Watch out for jacktastic 2000, 10 years is'nt very long !

Chess Mentor helps my game, imo.  When I get the chance to use it, I pick a course based on what I need work on and go through it.  I learned about opposition and flanking in pawn endings recently.  I didn't know that stuff and now I can use it in games.

Just playing games helps me learn tactics, recongnize blunders, etc.  Also it has improved my pattern recognition.  So I play better, know new things, and actually enjoy chess, thanks to chess.com.

I know my rating isn't great, but, I am as good a chess player as I've ever been in my life. Due, in large part, to my playing here. How do I know I'm better? Well, I'm seeing things I didn't used to see. In fact, just yesterday I saw a tactical combination in one of my games here that was 6 moves deep. At no time in my life before recently would I have seen anything that far ahead, in fact, I'm still a bit suprised I saw it, but hey, it worked. :-)

I say yes to both questions.

Well I find myself fluctuating really. Sometimes I play extremely well and others I play terrible. Depending on how comfortable with the game I am at that particualar moment. Chess.com has increased my knowledge base of the game to see diffrent types of players and their styles as well as learning from my mistakes. Yet perhaps I predict too much sometimes. I recently defeated some people who i could not previously defeat at chess club. So I could say that chess.com hasnt improved my game but is helping me slowly.

everyone makes blunders.  If you lose a game you obviously made a "blunder" somewhere, otherwise you wouldn't have lost.  As you get better you are able to see these blunders farther into game.

Chess.com has elevated my enjoyment of the game, along with my interest in it. My actual ability to play the game may have changed slightly but not much either way, however I wouldn't mind too much if I never improve, but I suppose everybody plays the game for different reasons.

To answer the second question, Yes I am enjoying this site and the people that are apart of it, first site I visit after my homepage loads up.  I have received help from people in regards to my questions, and I hope I have helped a few in return.  Has this site helped my chess, maybe, but is sure hasn't hurt it any.  I am striving to get better and I am using this site as a tool, because it does offer so much.

My daughter signed upto this site, and then promptly left me to play Chess while she plays word games !

I haven't played chess since school (25 years ago !), so I'm definitely enjoying it

Thanks

Chess.com, paired with my playing games at a nearby university's chess club, has helped my game.
