Let's say in a hypothetical scenario you are down many material points and playing against a terrible player. Do you respectfully resign and take the loss with sportsmanship or do you hold out till the end and hope he blunders?

What is "sportsmanship" for you?

There were matches were I played much better and I get it, it's their right to resign, but I'd rather way more getting a checkmate, that's why I played a match not so long ago where even thought I know I lost I kept playing in respect + considering I've bottled a few games where it seems like I've already won but ended up losing and if I ain't wrong I've also got a few comebacks, so you never know

I mean to beat someone higher rated u gotta beat them many times in the same game essentially, cause even if ur ahead there’s a good chance they could come back. When u resign ur basically acknowledging that your opponent is competent enough to win the position. I would say it depends what’s on the line, and if it’s a timed game or not.
