Don't use a real board?

Maybe you should get a tall table so you won't have to move your neck too far down. (I'm assuming this is the cause of your neck pain.)

Get a standing desk and put the board on that? Or, if a standing desk is pricy, rig your own; put a desk on a coffee table or vice versa, or put a board across a couple stacks of books on top of a table, or something like that.
I think it would be better managed within a hospital. Anyway, I would recommend the following.
1) Hot (but not burning) towel (or water-bag) applied on and around the painful site. It will help in increasing the blood circulation and could alleviate the pain somewhat. If there is internal bleeding (I do not think so) hot bag application is not good. Cold ice bag would be better in case of bruise/contusion/bleeding. At the very acute stage, cold ice bag application might help to lessen the pain.
2) As far as your food is concerned, soup (fluid) or semi-fluid diet would be better than any solid food which requires mastication (chewing).
Also, try not to move your neck a lot for 3 days and try massaging or hot showers, it might help. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
I don't study chess enough to get that, but I would imagine you are crouching down over the board. Try elevating the board to a height I bit closer to eye level...also, do neck stretches (you know, slowly rolling your head around in circles)...ibuprofen too...but you may want to check with a doc to be safe...
Chess is a dangerous sport, making one prone to serious injuries...
A got a paper cut, and I poked myself in the eye with a Bishop...
The OP should get a complete Chiropractic exam. A slipped disc can cause pain for a long time before its diagnosed. Look into "inversion tables" $100 and up. They let you hang upside down like a bat. I should of got one 20 yrs sooner.
