I am curious to know what are some of the highest numbers of blitz games played by chess.com members. Does anyone know of a member who has exceeded 100,000?

Yes.

There was a query function that worked in V2 that doesn't work any more.

However, I see that #1 snookie_p retired in 2016 with a total of 109,482 blitz games and #2 drjbell221b has continued to this day, reaching a total today of 127,002.

Thinking of challenging that number? I see that you are up to 22,113. Not bad-- but a long long way from the top.

What I wonder is, does playing all those games actually help improve one's rating over time?  Is it possible to play tens of thousands of games and hardly improve at all?  Of course, teachers and books that I've encountered say to avoid blitz unless you are 2000+, but we all seem to love it.

I am sure that I will reach 1900 very soon - and it is absolutely because of the extended, ongoing practice of repeated play. Of course, some actual study, i.e. of openings, endgames, strategy, etc., would be very helpful as well and probably give me a big boost if I could maintain a study regimen, but, alas, I am a poor student.

In reply to notmtwain: thank you for those numbers - very fascinating! And, no, I have no intention of beating those numbers. I was just curious.

Interesting question. I'm curious too.

I know a guy who had over 100,000 a few years ago... not on any one site, it was between two different sites he played on.

He didn't play for learning, he played after work to help him forget about the stressful day. On the weekends, he'd play at least a few hours.

Play 200 games a week, as a habit, then after 10 years you'll have a lot.

If they're all blitz, you'll get really good at your openings and little tricks (like when to speed up, what kinds of moves are hardest to deal with in a time scramble, mating with two queens using only premoves, etc).

You become, what I call, a blitz specialist. You can inflate your rating a few 100 points above what it normally would be... sometimes even more, like as much as 400, but at the cost of developing habits that will make your regular chess suffer.
