Homo Sapiens or the Naked Ape

Science tells us we are descendants of the apes, and that we are naked apes in a sense because we shed the ubiquitous body hair of other primates. Our highly developed brains made us the Sapiens branch of homo erectus. Thus we are homo sapiens. Our ancestry goes back to the source of all life, the oceans. Thus our even more distant ancestors were water dwellers.   At what point in this evolution did chess come along?  Only the superior brain of homo sapiens could have come up with such a game. By comparison our nearest relative on the evolutionary tree, the chimpanzee, would be eternally mystified by a game of 3 card monte or the three shells game.
