Do you play "hope chess" when you solve puzzles ? I guess you have to stop the urge to do it even if you think that it's not hope chess but your new chess intuition. You have to be honest with yourself if you do not go 3 ply deep then its hope chess.
Hope Chess
You're building your tactical pattern memory bank. It will be quite useful, but to work on weeding bad thinking habits you need to study positions and write/type down your thoughts. Do you consider every check, capture and threat? Do you compose a plan in critical positions? You need to evaluate, so ask yourself who stands better, by how much, and why. Then you find candidate moves to drive your analysis. If they have a move that leads to you ending up in a lost position or even worse off than you were before then it's time to eliminate that candidate.
Dan Heisman is good people. There's a couple of his books I am going to check out of his I like the chess thinker and the book about threats. Dan also recommended me to some of Jeremy Silman books. There's a lot of books out there. There's a lot of good books and there's some bad ones. Go to Dan's website. www.danheisman.com and he has a book recommendation page. I go to amazon.com and check out the reviews. Some are good and some are bad. Make a decision and it'll save you some time and some money.
Is my incessant, hours per day studying of chess tactics, here at Chess.com actually helping my "Hope Chess" game?
It feels like intuition is building, even with the 'hopeful' moves, the first move feels like it is 'starting to come' for me.
Many thanks to the encouragement from Chess.com participants, as well as Coach Heisman. I love his books and just saw his recommended books, via a link from someone here.
Improvement, itself, feels so rewarding.
