it's entirely possible to learn patterns simply by playing the game, iq isn't a very big factor
chess is the hardest sport of all time and its not close just think about it you have to have an insanely high iq and then you have to be good mentally or your brain just cant think and you have to memorize almost 100,000 different patterns just to understand and even be a good player
