Hou Yifan about to become strongest female player in the world

She is only 30 points behind Judit, and if she keeps beating 2750s like in this game ( just finished in Biel ), it won't take long before she surpasses her:

Fantastic game!

She,s good no doubt about it kick my ass any day but why have a womens world champion ? If chess is a game of the mind no obvious advantage exists if you are a man unless of coarse chess is,nt popular with women so the best minds of the feminine gender are'nt drawn to the chessboard ,nothing macho about it to single it out as a male dominated sport or just maybe when it comes down to sheer brilliance and innovation well, dare I say the Women just dont cut it

I've never seen a position like the one after move 17.

The placement of the knights there reminded me of the position after White's 24th move in the game below:

The difference is only 2.8 points now:

Wow

She is like a Magnus Carlsen of the womens chess world now, a big gap between her and no 2.

But she needs to beat top 10 MALE players to be considered equal or better than Judit Polgar, who has beaten all the world's elite including Kasparov.

I have a question that I've wondered about for a long time.  I never use foul language and don't have a dirty mind so anyone who wishes to take this in that direction, please don't.

I have seen women down through the years who have had to leave work and even had an ambulance called in one situation because she was cramping so bad during that time of the month.

Can a woman who is experiencing bloating and cramps concentrate during a game of chess as well as at any other time?  Do women like Judit Polgar or Yifan Hou have to pick tournaments when they know they won't have to deal with that situation?  If a woman ever did qualify to play for the World Championship would special consideration have to be given for such an event?

Bobby Fischer made it clear that if he hadn't been in great shape physically he would never have been able to accomplish what he did.

It seems that Yifan stabilized at a few points below Judit and can't break through:

However there are some other about tos:

Caruana is about to surpass Kasparov's highest ever rating ( which has only been achieved by Carlsen as yet ):

Rapport is about to become Hungary's first player ahead of Leko:

Didn't Judit Polgar just retire?

She will remain on the live list for another year even if she does not play a single rated game. So officially she is the strongest active female player in the world as of yet. Retirement is just an unofficial statement about her intentions and she also said that she is still willing to play for the team of Hungary should need be.

SilentKnighte5

Wake me up when she's about to become a top player in the world, period.

macer75

Oh, I see. Thanks for the explanation.

I don't know about her intentions. But if she takes her chess career seriously, becoming a super GM is certainly in the cards. So the hurdles before her are as follows:

1) becoming strongest active female player in the world

2) becoming a super GM

3) becoming strongest ever female player

4) becoming top player in the world

I think 1) and 2) are very likely, 3) is possible, 4) is very unlikely.

SilentKnighte5

#1 is completely unimpressive.   This a lot of talk dedicated to the #87 in the world chess player.  I bet no one could name the next 2-3 players above her on the rating list without looking it up.

Why are there no threads on Sanan Sjugirov, the world #84 and the same age as Hou Yifan?  Because it's a completely unremarkable accomplishmment.

Leko is simply incredible.  His technique is simply on a whole other level.

While I agree with SilentKnight that Hou Yifan is nothing exceptional compared to the other top 100 players I still think praise and discussion can't be too bad if it means more women will start playing chess. Hopefully we'll reach a time where ridiculous things like women's titles won't exist.

And why is it necessarily a good thing for more women to be playing chess? It's likely that what they're spending their time on now instead of chess is more productive.

Less shopping means more productivity.

Anish giri has a fetish for Hou Yifan or something, he enjoys getting beat by her.
