Today Houdini 4 was released. This info is from their website: :)

"The new Houdini 4 contains many evaluation and search improvements in all phases of the game and is about 50 Elo stronger than its predecessor. The improved strength means that Houdini 4 nearly doubles the chess performance of your PC for game analysis and match play."

If the author had managed to release this version a bit earlier, it could've competed in the TCEC tournament that is just concluding. Wonder if Houdini 4 would've done significantly better than 3 which came third behind Stockfish and Komodo?

Have you won any game against its predecessors? For you the worst engine is enough.

I find that Houdini 3 plays sharper and more tactical middle games than Houdini 2, but Houdini 2 has a better endgame play. How is Houdini 4's playing style compared to its predecessors?

In other words, to get the 50-point elo gain you'd need to give your old version (3.0) twice as much thinking time or with time staying the same twice the processing power. That's the cost of gaining 50 elo.
