Is there a rehabilitation centre for Chess.com addicts?

Is there a branch of chessaholics anonymous near you?

How can you tell if you are addicted to chess.com?

What was your tipping point when you knew you had gone from enthusiast to addict?

This was mine:

As the Welsh champion I was recently interviewed by the Macynllyth Argus.  They asked some standard tabloid questions and finished with:

If your house was burning down and you only had time to save 3 things what would you choose, I answered from my heart:

  1. My wife
  2. My lap-top (for chess.com)
  3. One of the twins

It was then that I realised I was addicted and needed help.

How did you realise you were an addict?

BTW who can we sue?

Yeah but which one? The lightest? The nearest? The lowest maintenance? The coolest (as in further away from the combustion point)?

When you start seeing a medieval tower in your head instead of a bird when someone says rook?

Luckily they are brother and sister - so it takes no time to decide.  Poor Cerys.

As a public service I've replaced "drink" with "play[ing]chess"  in the following to help answer this question:

----------------------------

1) Do you play chess alone?

2) Are you always finding or creating an excuse to play chess?

3) Are you able to function without playing chess?

4) Are you able to stop playing chess? A common symptom of chess addicts is the inability to stop playing chess or even try to cut back on it.

5) Do you find yourself unable to say no to the next game of chess?

6) Do you have violent episodes when you do not play chess?

7) Does your temper flare up more?

8) Are you hiding your chess playing from family and friends and when called out on your chess playing do you find yourself furious with them?

9) Have your eating habits taking a turn for the worse?

Most chess addicts do not eat healthy and most suffer from malnutrion due to the chess  interfering with the digestion process.

10) Has your physical appearance begun to suffer?

Ask yourself if you still care about what you look like. When was the last time you put an effort into taking care of yourself? Lastly, do you find yourself trembling in the morning, especially when the urge to play chess is strong?

If you have answered yes to any of these questions, you should contact your doctor. This does not mean you are a full fledge chess addict, but by answering yes to some of these questions could mean that you are on the road to becoming one. Isn't it better to get the help now, while you still have some control rather than later, when the disease has taken over your body?

Chess is already an everyday part of life for me.

Chess gives me inspiration, deep thinking and creativity.

In real life, you have to have these essence in order to overcome difficulties. Critical thinking and idealogy in chess helps you to evaluate situations when it arrives and also helps you to become a calmer person especially whenever you are in troubles.

I'm not addicted to chess BUT I'm already committed to chess play on line. Anyway, I guess there is a fine line between addiction and commitment. Wink
