Decide.
Do not play your intended move, but imagine it played on the board.
Check it is no blunder: does not hang any piece or pawn, does not run into checkmate.

Main thing I found in that range was to check to make sure I wasn't blundering material, and taking my opponent's hanging material when offered. Then trade down to an endgame where I had a 1-2 piece advantage, and win there.
