Try playing a few games with just the pawns (probably requires a physical board in your home :)) this can be a tremendous help in understanding the strenghts and weaknesses of these little princesses, I think.

No no! I just play most of my games offline, I'm currently playing as Black trying to change things up. I feel like I have no idea how to use the knights though :(.
Watch some of the lessons and use those tactics.
I think somehow this Computer silly is your ideal opponent at the moment. Keep practicing against it. It won't show you how to play proper chess, but you yourself can try to punish every mistake it makes. I.e. if it moves a piece to a risky square, you capture it with one of your pieces. If he attacks one of your pieces, you defend it by moving it away. If he allows his King to be attacked, you attack it. Check all checks - just make sure your pieces can never be captured by your opponent's. Never pass the chance to give a free check, it may be checkmate! Mate the thing!
