I carved a chess board from Osage Orange wood and was wondering if anybody knew the best place to get top dollar for it.   I have no idea how much it is worth.  Would love to get all ya'lls opinions

Thanks for looking

Oh my god, great piece!

I wouldn't be surprised if someone gave you more then $1,000 for it.

Beautiful! How much time did it take to make? Did you make the board and pieces too?

Gorgeous piece.  Not to be Captain Obvious here, but have you considered Ebay?  I don't even want to think about shipping costs though....

craigslist in a big city?

guess you'd have to drop it off with a friend.

shipping wouldn't be fun.

Thank you for your kind words    I did not make the pieces    But the board is part of the rock, its all one piece I just carved a square flat spot for the board and my wife stained the squares on it

I dont even know how many hours it took, I didnt keep track

Holy crap. I would be stunned if you got anything less than 5k for it; but why would you want to sell it!?

I'd expect it to go for quite a bit more.

That is awesome.

Maybe offer it to a top auction house. If they include it in their auction catalogue I reckon a lot of people would want to bid on it.

How would you get something like this appraised

Avatar of bigpoison

Were the trees still living when you got to work?  Mostly I ask because I'm curious as to what got into you to take on such a task.  Looks like a hell of a lot of work.

Again, an auction house is probably best.

You could get it appraised for insurance purposes much easier.  An appraisal on something like this, though, is pretty worthless.

It is worth the amount that someone is willing to pay.  You could list it on a website or get in touch with an auction house to find out how much that really is.
