I’m not sure whether this topic can be discussed about, but here’s what my opinion. I think chess.com don’t know that it is an another account unless someone reports it (That’s because chess.com investigate things when someone reports I guess.) When someone reports it, chess.com got things to check whether he has another account or not (I am not sure how it works). This is my opinion though.
how do they know if an account is an alt account?

For official alt accounts (of titled players and such) they keep a log, so for example a mod or staff could probably look at my profile and see my authorised second account.
I know chess.com can keep track of things like the IP address associated with the account, but I'm not sure how they would distinguish between family members or school students accessing from the same network.
What I do know is that for the most part multi-accounting offences go unenforced, they don't really do anything to prevent it, even when painfully obvious.

I think for this point they check things such as their opening and rating to check whether he is the same or not. It would be troublesome if the other account had a fake rating and used weird openings just to trick them though.

I know for sure that they would not just ban random accounts and think they are alt accounts even if it came from the same IP address. There are some people out there who has siblings that live together and they might want seperate accounts.
‘For official alt accounts (of titled players and such)’
it’s nice that Cc allow official alt accounts when needed. privacy is king. few days ago i had a small exchange with an official alt account. was funny to watch him dance like that.
no, probably not for talking about alt accounts for titled players and such because it’s legit.
but if you keep digging into how cc detect sockpuppets (illegal alts), that’s a different story because it will sound like you’re looking for a way to bypass their efforts to ‘keep it clean’ sort o speaking.
and to keep your mind out of nonsense and back on track… i think you’ll appreciate this illegal photo
…that’s spaceX retrieving their precious baby after a successful mission. setting the stage for round trips. the barge with the target sign on it is where it was actually landed and then carried to port. (it’s a no fly drone zone : )

but as soon as they find out anything, they can use that evidence to instantly ban you
So there is a chess.com rule stating that you can not have an alt account. How do they know if an account is an alt account?
