How do you think about chess 24/7 like magnus carlsen?

All the greats think about their sport/game 24/7. Even when they are doing something else unrelated to it they are in the background computing stuff related to their game. Does anyone on here think about chess 24/7 if so how long did it take for this to happen? I think the key to be a great player or great at anything is to be constantly thinking about what it is you want to be great at all the time. The problem is I have no clue or understanding of chess even on the basic level to begin this process of thinking about the game deeply. Help!

Multitasking is a myth. Google it.

It wasn't a length of time, all it took was seeing your mom. After I saw your mom that's all I thought about.

Unfortunately for you, your thoughts = grade A manure.

Read Seirawan's winning chess series, play a few 100 slow games. Only after learning the basics are you allowed to wonder what you can do to improve.

Unless you are making your living playing chess it sounds unhealthy to be thinking about it 24/7.

But surely its the only way to get good right?
