how good is Dereque Kelly

he runs the chess openings site....a  really knowledgeable chess player, knows his openings.. but wondering how good of a chess player he is..... does anyone know anything about him

I think he is a really good teacher,i have watched some of his videos and i find them very instructive

I see him at the Seattle chess club - he is a strong player around 2250 USCF. More importantly he is a nice guys who does not mind helping much weaker guys (like me) go over games and give advice.

I enjoy watching him on the chess opening site .

He is  a great  instructor !

Dereque Kelly is an US National Master

as someone already said, a real nice guy, (who wants to help someone).  I honestly don't think he makes any money doing those videos.  I think the major reason he does is because he wants to help somebody.

Lots of bumped threads lately. All the active threads are uninteresting. 

Not much detail in his videos...not enough to really learn an opening IMHO, but really good intros to get a feel for them.

Exceptional opening videos. Among the best for explaining the reasons for the main lines being what they are.

He never goes deeply into an opening, but does a great job at introducing it to anyone who doesn't know it. Good way to get familiar with several openings and maybe find one that interests you, IMHO. And, as has been said here already, He's a National Master.
