You are above average; so do not think of becoming worse :)

Insert a sharpened pencil into your nostril and hammer it with a shoe until your leg kicks involuntarily.

There are between 100 and 200 grandmasters in the world at any given time. There are about 2,000 people in the world rated at the master level or higher. There are 7 billion people on the planet so the odds of becoming that great are less than a tenth of a percent. The goal of chess at our level, where we aren't making a living doing it, should be strictly to enjoy ourselves. If we are having fun I think we are probably making better moves anyway, most of the time.

I am so confused by @weeding45's data. There are 1600 Grandmasters currently alive and tons more master-level players than predicted. If you just keep repeating the same thing over and over again, you tend to get better in this sort of game.

I looked at your stats. You are in the 79.6 percentile, which means you're better than four out of five players. I'm kind of stuck around your level, too, but I figure that, if I keep working and playing, eventually it all will sink in . . .
