no matter what move the white king makes my king can take, so the white king has no legal moves. and yet this still counts as a draw? i'm confuzzled.

When the king has no legal moves but isn’t in check, it’s a stalemate, which is a draw. A king cannot step into check. Your blunder was back here pushing a pawn instead of maintaining opposition with the king, driving him away from the putting his king in front of the queening square.
