I just hit 2000, and I have been playing chess around 1 year. I wonder how long does it generally take to reach 2000 on chess.com and if I am below average or not.

It would have taken 20 years but you did it x20 faster because you have big brain, quick math, 4D chess©, 9000IQ skills.

congratulations

Yeah he should be very good. Wesley So after one year only 1400 online. Him 2000.

2000 rapid can be surprisingly weak. 2000 uscf /fide is way stronger.

Why not look when he joined? Since that was the entire point that flew over your head.

Lol the scam claim is he just did chess for one year. Why are you so defensive the one who posted is not even offended.

"The scammers claim" for grammar correction purposes. Lol.

What a super talent has 2000 chess.com in just 1 year and 1 1/2 month. I heard Magnus was only 1700 online after that exact amount of time. Are getting happy now I am complimenting the one who posted the thread.

peoples with 2000+ are fairly rare, its not cause your a NM that 2000 is weak

@Mitchell_Z you are way above average, getting 200 rated in a matter of a year take multiple years to others to do, keep goind and you may have some titles in the future

It depends on who you're facing. A 2000 OTB will probably be at least 100-200 points higher rated online. I know many 2000+ people online, but they are less than 1200 OTB (including myself, I'm only 1400 OTB.

However, the NM is probably experienced and has won a lot online but not as much OTB.

he was talking about chess.com ELO

I mean why would I lie, I do not really benefit from that. But if you choose to not believe me that I started last year in october, it is absolutely your choice.

I literally see on your profile that you joined March 4, 2023
Mitchell_Z

Mitchell_Z

The way chess.com is set up on auto match ups it will take a longtime to reach 2000 rating because it you use the Auto Match for quick pairings your only going to earn small amount of plus points per any wins you may get!? And to get a higher percentage you would need to get paired against much higher rated opponents which is not easy to achieve....Also better be looking over your shoulder on getting too many of those results (BIG BROTHER CHESS.COM ARE WATCHING TO THROW THE WET TOWEL YOUR WAY!!?)

I created a video / case study on doing it in <1 year, but generally takes most people longer.

yeah this is shockingly true. I played some 2150s on here and they didnt seem super strong as i expected them to be, but when i plyed a 2150 fide NM from a chess club, he was much more difficult to crack and he definitely knew what he was doing which led him to win an endgame

Agree with sentiment here (that 2000 on chess.com is weaker than irl). I think much less friction to play, so don't take all your games too seriously, play more silly openings, etc.

nbrasington

i've been playing chess for over 2 years and i'm still hovering around 1500-1600 rating on Chess.com, so you're for sure doing better than me
