How long has everyone been playing chess?

hard to answer that. i could say since 4th grade and i'm almost 50 now. sounds like alot. however, it was mostly my stepfather who taught me and some very sporadic play until i was in the navy where i played frequently. then and until a couple weeks ago it was rare for me to play. so to sum it up a long time but very sporadically

Everyone is somewhere on the spectrum of chess ability. Just enjoy and improve. Learn from your mistakes. I've been playing over forty years and have gradually improved
oh... i forgot the advice part... ok here it goes for better or worse... dont only look at where a player has moved to and what it can now do in its new position, look also at where it was and what its absence now allows their other pieces to do...
