How to disable an auto ply in Arena Chess?

When I use the "Set-up a Position" feature in the Arena Chess app and save the game as a PGN file, with white set to make the first move, the file always opens with the first half-move already made, and I must click on the "One move backwards" button to move the piece to its starting position. I would like to have the file open with the piece to move first on its start square. The problem does not occur when saving the file with black set to make the first move, wherein ellipses points appear in the Movelist panel ("1. ...").

Has anybody figured a way to get Arena to open without making the first ply?

I'm not sure, but if you're saying what I think you're saying, the menu setting you need is:

Options --> Appearance --> PGN --> Load (tab) --> Go to move _ after loading.

It's probably set to 1. Change it to 0, and that should do it.

Yay! That worked! Thank you sooooo much. (I'd like to buy you lunch.)

BTW, in the "Set-up a Position window, in the "Options" section, can you throw any light on the following two settings?

"Game fragment begins with move to no_"

"No. of reversible half-moves_"

I am able to reverse any number of half-moves, even when set to zero.

Well, I can answer 50%. The first one (game fragment) is just the move number that you want the position to start with. For example, if you're inputting a position from a game, and that position was on move 13 of the game, then you can have that position start at move 13, rather than move 1. It's just a way of telling someone where a position occurred in a game.

For the "no. of reversible half-moves", I'm afraid I've never really understood that one. I think it has something to do with being able to keep track of three-position repetition, but frankly I don't understand it. I've always just ignored it, lol.

Since Arena recognizes a mate situation and the 50 Move Rule, I imagine it may also recognize the threefold repetition rule. I'll play with it. Thanks for lending a hand.
