how to efficiently study your chess hero/model

Hello everyone! I recently decided i would pick a model player and study his games to learn from their style. I started reading ‘fire on board’ by Shirov, but I didn’t like the way he analyzed (his lines seemed so unlogical), but I really wanted someone sharp, so I started working on ‘the life and games of Mikhail Tal’ and it seems that I’m learning a lot from his games.
My question is how long/deeply should I study his games to get the most out of it. I started by doing 1 game per 1h30-2h, each time asking myself ‘what would I play here?’ Do you think it’s a good approach and if so should I do it both for me and my opponent?

An hour and a half seems like a healthy time. Definitely a good approach to do so for your opponent, because if you only look at your good moves, you’ll never see your opponents’.

Anatoly Karpov always looked for his opponents best moves before his. And he was a chess legend.

Ok, thanks! Does anyone have anymore tips on how to get the most out of that study?

And should I use the engine after studying the game to verify lines or should I just rely on trying to understand the author’s explanation?

Play through a couple of games, if you're studying Tal maybe also study a positional(ish) player like Botvinnik. Try to refute Tal's ideas to improve your defensive skills. Some of the greatest players had a defensive and solid style.

Don't use the engine until you've exhausted all other alternatives, if you don't understand a line maybe play through it on a physical board and think about what each move does.
