How to fund a chess park

Better than a dog park, which has also been proposed for this particular spot of spare land downtown. Though I suppose the inevitable chess hustlers would strike some people as scary and/or undesirable.
A chess park (complete with giant set, naturally) is an enchanting addition to a city. I suggested one for my own town. How to fund it? Have people "adopt" the squares of the giant board, with the first square costing $1, the next is $2, then $4, ..$16.....you get the idea. ;). Also a good way to pay off the national debt.
