How to get above 2000 blitz on this site

I have determined that there is one main way of getting above 2000 blitz on this site - that is to stop hanging pieces.

Everyone knows the basic principles of chess - develop pieces, don't lose material, take material, be active, etc.

So they will play OK moves positionally - enough to not be completely dominated positionally.

However, all players under 2000 mainly lose because they hang their pieces. So stop hanging pieces, and you will be 2000+.

When I was 1500 USCF, I managed to get 2000 blitz on this site, because I didn't hang pieces.

Please try it out.

Also, don't play in Arena. That also helps,.

Naa, not really.

But this is a recycled troll topic so... I'm not surprised to see a recent account creation date.

By the way this is a classic chess player fallacy:  the rating of [100-200 points below me] just takes tactics, and [my rating and above] requires learning strategy, endgames, etc.

I heard a 2600 say it about lesser GMs. I heard Carlsen imply it about Wesely So (when So was new to the top 10).

In reality, almost right after beginner level, it's good to be well rounded. There's no such thing as a player who only knows tactics... and if there were, their rating would be terrible. Far below 2000.

That reminds me of Dan Heisman's excellent intro to his book, The World's Most Instructive Amateur Game Book, part of which is:

"Well, Dan," Howard Stern's familiar bass voice intoned, "now that I am up to 1000, that's about it. I can't seem to beat those 1100's.

"But Howard," I protested, "you're just giving them free pieces and they are taking some of them. They are giving you free pieces and you aren't taking as many of them. If you just stop giving them free pieces and take all of theirs, you will beat them every game...basically, it's as easy as that.

Four years later Howard was rated 1700 ICC (Internet)."

For example, random game I just played.

Like I said, it's a little bit of both... but just wanted to give some of my typical thoughts when playing a bad player... often I'm thinking of winning via pawn structure and endgame ideas... yes in blitz.

3/0 game.

And one from chess.com

Here my play wasn't so good, giving my opponent lots of chances to get back to equal, but again, always thinking in terms of structure and endgame and that's how I typically try to win blitz games. Not tactics (although sure, tactics are necessary too, so again it's a mix)
