Buy a decent chess tactics book, and work through it. Very simple.

Quality, not quantity. For each problem, take as much time as you need to visualize the solution. If you get it wrong, try to determine what oversight made you miss it. Figure out which themes are easy for you and which are more difficult. If you are good at spotting smothered mates and back rank checks, but you frequently miss exchange sacrifices or knight forks then go back to the books and study study study those weak tactics of yours. My recommendation goes to Winning Chess by Chernev and Reinfeld, and Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess. In both books the tactics are separated by theme, in order of increasing complexity and are very helpful for programming your brain to see them.
Take long breaks, and then strike when the trainer is not expecting it. Thus you will overwhelm the tactics trainer. Thats how my rating curve went from 2100 to 2600 in 3 days.
I think the only way is just to do many puzzles every day. It is better in my experience to do a bit every day rather than a lot one day and nothing for a week. For example, try do to 20' per day rather than 2 hours one day and nothing for the rest of the week.
Do not forget to avoid the nasty CHESS ADDICTION: <snip>

I defiently disagree, just look at this graph. Having some periods where you do a lot of puzzles, is important;

Should you do just a few of them or many of them each day? I use a site with chess tactics. What is the best way to improve in chess tactics?
