"How To Study Openings"
++ Do not. Just play and analyse your lost games. You do not win or lose because of the opening, but because of tactical errors. Each time you switch openings, you lose more, as it takes time and losses to accumulate experience.
'Memorization of variations could be even worse than playing in a tournament without looking in the books at all.' - Botvinnik
'Ninety percent of the book variations have no great value, because either they contain mistakes or they are based on fallacious assumptions; just forget about the openings and spend all that time on the endings.' - Capablanca
I've been playing the sicilian a lot recently but I realised that I had a HORRIBLE win rate when i checked it on openingtree.com. I decided to switch to the caro and started learning a chessable course on it. The only problem is, i dont really know how I am supposed to study them, I feel like they just slip out of my mind a few days later, even after reviewing and I get confused and mix up the lines or assume my opponent made the move that was shown in the course. Also, the course does not have a video so it seems really annoying to have to read everything in the course.
Any input will be really helpful!
