How to visualize the chess board ?

I am beginner in chess . Whenever I read chess books,I find it hard to follow the variations without actually moving the pieces on the board. I think it would be a lot easier if I am able to visualize the board in my mind. I would like to know how to do it.

Find a good, basic image of a chessboard and study it.  Visualize moving a pawn.  Visualize your opponent moving a pawn.  See how far in the game you can get before you lose track of the pieces.  Rinse, Repeat!

A good place to play with a board, since you're a Diamond Member: the Analysis Board in Live Chess.

I recommend you go to Youtube.com or google.com and type Chess Opening Theory for Beginners. There, you will find a multitude of resources that are aimed at beginners.

First you must know that a bishop on b8 attacks h2 and not g2. In other words, you must know the most permanent feature of the game, the board, without thinking. Yes, literally memorize the squares, their color, the ranks, files, and all diagonals. You must know from which squares a knight can attack e4. Do this for all squares. Memorize all of this. That's step 1.
