Hypothetical/silly question... Do you think the King is worth 3 points?

It seems as far as movement ability goes, the King would be equal with a Bishop or a Knight (ok I know Bishops are worth slightly more than Knights), but if you consider how the King moves, one square to any color in any direction... Is this at least just as good as the Bishop, who can move across the whole board quickly, but only stay on one color the whole game?

No, I want a theoretical answer

Maybe if it was a piece it would be worth 2 or 3 points but that doesn't change fact it is the king, since it cannot be taken I guess it is both priceless and pointless!

I reckon 2. Has better mobility than a pawn, but less than a knight or bishop.

Well I mean the King can't move to any square that threatens him so I would value him at a 1-1.5

By my reckoning the king is worth at least 40 points. What would you rather have, all your other pieces or your king?

If there was no such thing as check then you could roughly score pieces based upon the number of squares they control. So a king would be 3x a pawn, 9/13 of a knight, 3/5 of a rook etc. So somewhere between 2 and 3.

I’ve thought about the vulnerability of the king- even if it wasn’t the most valuable piece already, only being able to move one square might lead to it being trapped easily even as an aggressor

about four points
In the endgame, where there is usually little danger of checkmate, the fighting value of the king is about four points. In the endgame, a king is more powerful than a minor piece but less powerful than a rook.

Not silly at all. As the endgame approaches the king needs to get more involved,  in fact it's one of the most important pieces.  It's worth about 3.5 to 3.75 on average. Clearly it's value changes like all pieces, it depends on many factors,  but that's an average.  Use it.

A piece that moves like a king but is not subject to check or mate is called a "mann". Its value is indeed similar to a knight or bishop. Fun fact: unlike K+B or K+N vs K, it's possible to force a mate with K+Mann vs K.

Feel more like 2 points

A piece or pawn is worth how many squares they can control in your opponents camp, divided by two. In that sense the king is worth 4. And the queen 9, because of its ability to perpetual alone. That's what Seirawan teaches at least
