I am a coward

I am a little coward, I am not confident enough to play anyone that is not at least 200points higher than me, because if I lose, I won't be 1100 for long. losing against someone 200 points stronger than me is consequence free however

But if you win...you also won't be 1 100 for long.

Play on as usual! 1 100 is just a number. And more experienced opponents are where you can draw upon or learn experiences.

I am more scared of playing lower rated players than higher rated players because of the rating movements if I lose a game.

I'd play a GM/IM all day every day an lose 100,000 games just to say I won one.

...on time.

I'm not picky a win is a win :) is time not part of the game?

If you lose against someone with much higher ratings, you'll lose much less rating points than against someone on your own level.

Fair point...

@Spielkalb Exactly, I lose a point or two max if I lose to 1400, but if I win, I gain 12 points! I became 1100 by beating several 1300s, I am not proud of myself, but this strategy works

It's just that, every time I pass a milestone, I would believe that I had pushed to my limit and became afraid of losing the points I gained. I would stopped playing that format entirely to avoid losing the points. I don't really push to the limit until I am absolutely certain that I can beat everyone in the next rating ladder

eric0022

It's pretty common for us to fear losing a milestone we have accomplished.

Give yourself time. Once you are ready to risk the possibility parting with the new rating in your quest to improve your rating, carry on.

Your rating might drop. Your wealth of experience won't.

korotky_trinity

Down with all these f..king ratings !

Don't pay so much attention to them.

I was 1670... now I am 1600.

Why should I be upset?

Why do you care so much about rating points?

I just see them as a means to get in touch with other players who are about my own level of playing.

I think my fear stem from me being a relatively new player, I still remember how 900s could sandbags me a few months ago, I still remember the months it takes for me to eventually become 800 in blizt. I still remember the fear I had when someone played kings Indian against me, I still remember the opening traps my opponent would play in the game. I am well pass that newbie stage now, I can see moves ahead of times, but the impression remains

Well, if it makes you better, even I myself sometimes feel like safeguarding my own rating.
